Making a Fitness Pivot in Midlife is One of the Hardest Things You Will Ever Do
Few people try, and most don’t succeed. I made a pivot from a sedentary lifestyle on the Standard American Diet (SAD) a decade ago, and I’ve never looked back. At 55, I’m the fittest I’ve ever been in my life.
I was only able stay on this journey because I (unknowingly) built a support team of people that helped me go the distance. Without these people I’d argue that my chances of success were barely higher than zero.
I may have the honor of being one of first people on your support team and as you start your fitness journey. Let’s talk and see if we are a good fit for each other.
How This Works
1. Discovery Meeting
We’ll have a discovery meeting via Zoom to see if we are a good fit to work together.
2. Assessment
If we decide to work together, I’ll ask you to get some tests done so we know where you are starting from.
3. Goals & Planning
We’ll set some goals, rough out a plan, and check in weekly (or as needed) for three months. Then we’ll check in every other week (or as needed) until we reach the six-month mark when we will review our progress and plan your next steps.

Here is What We’ll Do Together…
- Get your baselines. This includes a Dexa scan (a detailed BMI test), a Heart Calcium Scan (tells us your risk of cardiovascular disease), and bloodwork from your doctor as part of a routine physical.
- Set realistic short and long-term goals
- Encourage you to maintain and growth mindset and get out of your comfort zone
- Help you to find a sport you enjoy that becomes the foundation of your fitness and your fitness community. Spoiler alert, this is the most important thing we will do together.
- Help you plan and train for a race, event, or adventure. Spoiler alert, this is the second most important thing we will do together.
- Help you improve your diet slowly.
- Encourage you and hold you accountable when you don’t feel like doing this anymore.
- Expose you to key subject matter experts who can deepen your understanding of health and fitness.
- Help you set up measurement tools like your smart watch, food tracking apps, and a continuous glucose monitor (if needed).
- Help you program your fitness with tools like TrainingPeaks.
- Help you build a community of peers, coaches, and subject matter experts you can rely on as you continue the journey.
Cost and Commitments
This is not my day job. I coach people because I’m good at it, and because I love seeing the transformation that can happen in people’s lives when they take their health seriously. To that end, I only take a few clients at a time – and those clients have to be serious about making a fitness pivot.
Additionally, I tend to only work with clients who have funds with NCF or have completed the Masters Program. I’d highly recommend you do this with one or two other friends if possible, but this is not a requirement.
I do not charge for this service, but I ask that you consider a suggested charitable donation of $3,000 to my NCF Donor Advised Fund if I have helped you at the end of the six months. This is tax deductible to you and I use these funds to help my favorite charities. There will also be out of pocket costs for tests, services, gear, and resources you will need in your journey. These all depend on the plan we build together.
